Rebecca Woodward

Director

As an ecologist and visitor experience specialist Rebecca has over 25  years’ experience undertaking marine and wetland-related projects balancing environmental protection with sustainable livelihoods and  economic development 


Rebecca has worked on a diverse range of habitat creation, restoration and enhancement works, gaining  expert knowledge in costing wetland restoration works and understanding the requirements to sensitively integrate the needs of both people and  wildlife. She is skilled in visitor centre feasibility, design and  management with expertise in master planning and business planning  including: governance, access and audience planning; visitor number predications; capital costings; income generation opportunities; and long-term operational costing planning 


She has managed  projects in the UK, North America, Asia, Middle East and Europe and is a  member of the Society of Wetland Scientists


Key experience includes: 

  • design, implementation, analysis and reporting of ecological surveys
  • wetland physical surveys including soils, hydrology and topography
  • wetland habitat mapping and design
  • site supervision of habitat construction
  • stakeholder engagement, facilitation and community consultation
  • wetland visitor facility audience, access, business model and infrastructure assessment and masterplanning
  • complex multi-disciplinary project planning and management, budget control, client liaison, team supervision and quality control


  

Key projects include: 

  • wetland restoration feasibility and design, Wales
  • sustainable drainage design for urban communities, UK 
  • development of Ramsar Site designation guidance, South East Asia
  • visitor experience design including interpretation planning, Wales 
  • rights of wetlands operationalisation for biodiversity and community resilience, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Ecuador and Guyana

Matthew Simpson

DIRECTOR

Matthew has over 25 years’ experience in delivering nature conservation, research, assessment and management related projects and is an accredited Professional Wetland Scientist  


Matthew is currently the President of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) Europe Chapter, Past President of the SWS Professional Certification Program and is a longstanding member of the Constructed Wetland Association Committee. He also is an observer on the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands' Scientific and Technical Review Panel and sits on their Wetland City Accreditation Independent Advisory Committee


Matthew has managed projects in Europe, Asia, South East Asia, Africa, South America and North America 


Matthew's experience includes:

  • integration of indigenous traditional knowledge systems related to wetland management with scientific approaches for wetland monitoring and management
  • wetland biodiversity and ecosystem service identification, assessment and economic and non-economic valuation of structure, processes, functions and benefits of wetlands
  • wetland management planning and decision support tool development
  • habitat design and management
  • identification and delivery of livelihood opportunities and health management within natural resource management projects
  • community and stakeholder consultation and project delivery
  • design of constructed wetland treatment and sustainable drainage systems
  • design and management of eco-tourism and visitor centre projects
  • design and management of natural infrastructure within urban and rural areas
  • training and capacity building in wetland monitoring and management


Key projects include:

  • community wetland management planning and training, Colombo, Sri Lanka
  • rights of wetlands operationalisation for biodiversity and community resilience, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Ecuador and Guyana
  • identification of community owned solutions for sustainable resource adaptive management with indigenous communities, Guiana Shield Region, South America
  • floodplain wetland restoration designs, UK
  • development of 5th Strategic Plan for Convention on Wetlands
